The Baroque Era happened around the 1600's (17th century) in Europe. It was a reaction against Mannerism which was a very complex art. Baroque art however, was less complex, more realistic, and had greater naturalism and emotionalism than Mannerism. The Catholic Church also encouraged this type of art.

?Questions:

1. Looking at the paintings Margareta Synders and Frans Synders, infer what Anthony Van Dycks job was? (HinT: Yeah he was an artist but specifically what kind? What did he paint mostly?)

2. List two ways the Baroque Era was different from Mannerism.

3. Do you think Baroque art or Mannerism art affected people the most? Why?
